Root Canal Therapy

Tooth pain is no laughing matter. Things like stuck food particles and nighttime teeth grinding can cause pain, but when it's deep and isolated to one area, it may be an infection deep within your tooth. At Sullivan Family Dental, we provide gentle root canal therapy to stop the pain and save your tooth.

What Is a Root Canal?

When you show signs of a tooth infection, sometimes the best way to relieve the associated pain, remove the infection, and save your natural tooth is with a root canal. During a root canal procedure, we get inside the tooth to clean out the infected tooth pulp and the root canals themselves. Once we're confident that the infection is gone, we fill the canals with a medication to prevent more infection and then seal them. To provide the tooth with additional strength and protection, we top the tooth with a natural-looking dental crown.

We know that root canals are known for being painful, but we do our best to provide gentle care and keep you comfortable. If you're someone who normally feels anxious about going to the dentist, let us know! We always numb the immediate area thoroughly, but we can also provide extra comfort through nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. Nitrous oxide helps you feel completely at ease while we work. Signs You May Need a Root Canal

These signs don't mean you definitely need a root canal, but if you experience these, you should call our office for an appointment.

Post-Root Canal Care

One of the big things patients ask us about regarding their root canal therapy is how to manage discomfort and care for the tooth after the procedure. We provide you with post-op instructions to ensure that the area stays clean and you avoid future infection. For pain, we recommend taking over-the-counter pain relievers regularly to stay ahead of any pain. If you have any questions or concerns after your root canal, don't hesitate to call us. Your health and comfort are top priorities for the Sullivan Family Dental team.
